July 2002 - Stalker V6

Welcome to July!Temperatures are currently in the low 90s and rather humid. This does deter extensive work in the garage, but I do hope to have a driving car by the end of the month. Following the installation of the new flywheel, connection of the transmission the engine will be installed. Then the exhaust will be fabricated and hopefully the engine tested after the fuel system is added. Then onto the steering and brake bleeding, at which point the car should be mobile.

The new flywheel fits fine… but the Camaro clutch does not.

Swapped clutch for 85 S-10 - doesnt fit either - too small in diameter to bolt holes.

Swapped for an 82 S-10 - fits just fine!

Except now the bolts are too long and foul on the block - bought 6 new 20mm long bolts

A distributor has turned up! Just need to get a cap and we are there.

Looking at VDO Cockpit white guages… (see pic below) I’ve approached a couple of suppliers with a few questions. Springfield StreetRod answered one of the questions, so I placed the order

Engine is in! With a few friends help, the trusty roof-beam come-along lifted the engine and tranny and it slipped easily into place. After rotating the tranny rubber mount by 180 degrees, the holes lined up perfectly!

Started to line up exhaust system

Got new rotor and matching red distributor cap - $18

Got new water pump

Started adding up all the receipts for the build - total so far is approx $6500. I hope to squeeze in under $9000 all done.

Spent another bundle at JEGS - harnesses, seat covers, fan, valve covers, fuel tank and quick release steering bushing.

Ordered steering components from Flaming River - U-joints and DD shaft

Started welding exhaust pipes together - all pipe lengths are so far within 3/4″ of each other!

Fitted gear stick remote

Fitted propshaft

Adjusted rear axle into place

Fitted panhard rod

All JEGS stuff has arrived (-:

Fitted steering wheel to Quick Release boss

Fitted first rear corner piece, bending carefully into place…

Flaming River pieces arrived - very nice!

Welded hitch receiver to chassis and new tubing to support spare wheel on rear and fuel tank.

Bought fuel pump, filter and piping.

Painted all new welding, tubing and gear remote.

Fitted fuel system, pipes, pump and filter

Made tank support brackets

Finished 1st manifold. 2nd is cut and tack-welded together!

Still waiting for Springfield Streetrods to deliver gauges - 2 1/2 weeks now!

Rerouted parking brake cable to fit handle on tunnel top.

Bought exhaust tubing and chrome tips to finish muffler. Trial fit - looks great!

Fitted timing cover and water pump / water pump pulley

Bought radiator cap

Just ordered a set of Cockpit White VDO gauges.

Started to route the exhaust pipes…

Spot the difference - flexplate, S-10 92 and Camaro 97

Hitch is welded into place along with extra tube to support fuel tank and spare wheel.

Header #1 takes shape…
