April 2002 - Stalker V6
Opened up drain plug and fill plug on transmission. Tipped out remaining oil and replaced with new Dexron III. Rotated shafts by hand to distribute oil and moved through gears. It seems smooth and quiet.Discovered that lifting transmissions incorrectly can have an effect on your back. Spent a while sitting looking through catalogues…
Considering using a Wilwood dual-cylinder brake system.
Think I’ve found a flywheel from a local breaker - awaiting a call…
Visited the breakers and picked up a 87 Camaro flywheel - seems to match perfectly - and its still got all its teeth!
Ordered Wilwood twin-master brake and clutch pedals, 3 remote master cylinders in 3/4″, 7/8″ and 1″ and a 10lb residual pressure valve from Randy’s Racemart for $345 inc shipping. (-:
Spent a pleasant three hours scraping and cleaning the timing cover and oil pan.
Spent the weekend in Toronto seeing the Lion King - not much work done on the car…
Received a 4 ft length of 3/4″ steel tube for steering column, hood catches and strikes - all from Aircraft Spruce.
The brakes have arrived and look great - ordered some brake lines from Jegs.
Ordered a couple of #3 AN adaptors from PitStopUSA.
Found a supplier for other brake fittings - Orme Brothers.
Picked up a battery from Batteries Plus - narrow (5 inches), so it will leave lots of footwell room.
Brake line has proven a pig to flare - decided to cut line to size, then take to get flared somewhere. The pipe is so hard, it pushes right out of the flaring tool before it will flare - (tried three tools).
Cut and folded a neat passenger footwell panel that leaves a perfect size box for the battery - very pleased.
Fitted the clutch and brake pedals.
Fitted new rotors, calipers and pads (less than $50 a side!)
Fitted brake lines.
Lifted car onto floor and test-fitted rear axle.
Fitted the rear axle and drums.
Fitted a borrowed set of wheels - they were too big and fouled on the bodywork, but it did stand on its wheels for the first time!
Ordered a set of SSC 8-spoke alloys and four Falken 512 50-series tires.
Electrical components arrive from www.delcity.net - quality was good and prices were very good.
Finished fitting brake lines and hydraulic brake switch.
Build continues on May 2002 page
Wilwood dual-master brake pedal and clutch
Wilwood remote master cylinder
The battery fits perfectly, down low and in its own space.
A neat foot panel, with hidden fasteners completes the battery box…
…giving a panel for the passenger to rest their feet against.
The single clutch and dual master cylinder fit perfectly.
Rear axle put into place.
Front Brakes complete and ready for wheels.
Almost a rolling chassis!!
And the wheels are ON!
It would roll if the wheels were the right size…honestly!
